Friends and family of a 72-year-old biker who was killed in a hit-and-run crash last week said Tuesday they hope the woman charged in the case does not get off easy.
Chuck King, 72, was killed Thursday when he was knocked off his bike on Interstate 635. An 18-wheeler then ran over King, killing him.
More than 100 bikers gathered at Keller's Hamburgers on Tuesday to honor King.
Friends said he could spend hours on a motorcycle. He drove cross-country so often, his friends called him "Iron Butt," because "it requires an iron butt to stay on your bike that long," Mike Malloy said.
Before they rode off to a memorial for the fallen biker, they secured his 2002 Springer Screaming Eagle motorcycle on a flatbed truck. King's friends draped his vest and put his riding shoes backwards on the bike's pedals, a symoblic gesture.
Garland police arrested Tasha Hayes, 18, this week in connection with the hit-and-run.
Police said tips led officers to the vehicle, which belongs to Hayes' boyfriend. He told police she was driving, and Hayes admitted she was behind the wheel Thursday, police said.

Hayes told police she swerved to avoid something in road and then overcorrected into King's lane.
She faces a third-degree felony for failing to stop and render aid.
But King's friends said they were surprised by the charge.
"She shouldn't have left," Ralph Avara said. "She deserves what she gets. I hope they're hard on her."
