Freed After Shooting Arrest, Greenville Native Puts 1,000 Miles Between Him and Infamy

Hunt County authorities have not made any arrests in connection to the Oct. 26 shooting

Brandon Gonzales moved halfway across the country last weekend, leaving behind his three young children, his girlfriend and the town he grew up in. He hopes the distance will let him escape the unwanted notoriety he experienced after authorities mistakenly accused him of killing two party-goers in a shooting outside Greenville last month.

Gonzales, 23, said he just wants to work. But when he went to an interview Monday for a job at a warehouse in Florida, he said the interviewer told him: Let’s wait a year to let this settle down.

He was crushed.

“I mean, who can wait a year without a job?” Gonzales said in his first extensive interview since his release from the Hunt County jail.
