Fort Worth Woman Incorrectly Billed for Vehicle Tolls

Maira Nunez lives and works in Fort Worth, so she was surprised when she received a TxTag bill for tolls from July 2014.

The vehicle description matched — she has a Chevy Tahoe — but the license plate didn't. Plus, the biggest factor, Nunez didn't buy her vehicle until later that year.

Nunez said she sent proof she bought the car after the tolls were made, but still she received bills. She told customer service agents, "I've already sent you that information that they needed. Why am I still receiving bills?"

Nunez is not alone. Last spring, the Texas Department of Transportation admitted more than 30,000 people may have been billed incorrectly, prompting lawmakers to call for an internal audit.

A few days after NBC 5 got involved, Nunez said someone from TxTag called and told her the charges have been cleared.
