Fort Worth Rosedale Construction Takes Over Bus Stops

Road construction can be a hassle, and at times, disrupt traffic flow.

For people in Fort Worth’s Stop Six area, construction on Rosedale Street has taken over their bus stops.

The street repair work spans from Miller Avenue, down Rosedale Street, to Interstate 820.

Fort Worth council woman Gyna Bivens said she's been fighting for revitalization in her district for years.

"Whenever you have construction that's an indication progress is coming. But with construction there is a bit of inconvenience, but this is construction that has been in the works for many many years,” said Bivens.

One resident has expressed concerns about the construction project, and worries other residents — specifically the elderly — would have a difficult time crossing the roadwork to get to their bus. Poor lighting and the lack of seating and covering is also an issue.

"[The resident] is concerned about access for people in wheelchairs and that it would be hard for them to catch the bus," said Bivens. "He was also concerned that there wasn’t enough lighting. So thanks to that complaint we have lighting on Rosedale that is burning at night time now. TxDOT did come in the city came in and together made it easier for people to catch the bus."

The Texas Department of Transportation takes precedence over the road. According to a spokesperson for TxDOT, “the purpose of the project is to improve mobility and safety, add sidewalks, and a raised curb median with left turn options.”

The Rosedale St. repair project is projected to cost $24.3 million with an estimated completion date in 2019.

The Fort Worth Transportation Authority was contacted regarding the placement of bus stop seating and covering for its riders.

A spokesperson for the bus service has not responded to our inquires.
