Fort Worth Police Officer Struck by Vehicle on Highway

Fort Worth police said an officer was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle near the Interstate 30 and Interstate 35W mixmaster Tuesday night.

Police said officers responded to a call about a sofa on the westbound ramp from I-30 to I-35W at about 10 p.m.

As the officers were setting up cones and flares to warn oncoming traffic, they noticed a vehicle heading toward them. They tried to get out of the way, but one officer was hit.

An adult male was driving with his wife and young child, police said. The man pulled over and tried to help the officers.

Police said paramedics took the 13-year veteran officer to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. The officer suffered a broken leg along with several cuts and bruises.

The family that hit the officer were very distraught but suffered no physical injuries from the collision.

Fort Worth police are still investigating, but indicated that they do not expect to file criminal charges.

"It appears to be an accident," Fort Worth Police Cpl. Tracey Knight said.
