Fort Worth Police Captain Fired After Internal Affairs Investigation

Captain had been with the department for 22 years

An Internal Affairs investigation revealed a Fort Worth police captain was visiting sexually-explicit websites while at work and engaging in self-gratifation while on duty.

Chief Jeffrey Halstead terminated Capt. L.A. Harris Wednesday.

“This behavior is absolutely deplorable and violates the public’s trust, which is something I will never tolerate because it is not in keeping with the highest ethical standards of the Fort Worth
Police Department," Halstead said in a statement.

A six-month investigation into Harris' activities began after special investigators found some of the websites he visited during work hours were adult sites.  Internal Affairs was immediately notifited, police said.

Harris, who had been with the department 22 years, had been assigned as one of two overnight duty captains after obtaining the rank on June 25, 2011.
