Fort Worth Officers Rescue Dog Walking on I-30

Two Fort Worth police officers are credited with saving the life of a dog that was spotted wandering along Interstate 30 last week.

Officers Allen Speed and Paul Garcia were driving along I-30 near Beach Street Jan. 27 when they noticed the dog in the middle of the busy highway.

The pair then stopped, set up a temporary roadblock and safely rescued the rat terrier.

β€œShe’s one very, very lucky dog,” said Whitney Hanson, of the Humane Society of North Texas.

Dash camera video posted to YouTube showed the officers' efforts.

β€œIt was very, very, very heroic that the officers stopped traffic and risked their own safety to save this little girl,” Hanson said. "It’s heartwarming and just humbling to know they would do that.β€β€œShe’s just incredibly lucky that they saw her,” Hanson added.

The dog, now nicknamed "Beach," is available for adoption at the Lancaster Avenue branch of the Humane Society of Fort Worth.

Authorities asked anyone who recognizes the dog to call 817-332-4768, Ext. 108. To adopt the dog, call 817-332-4768, Ext. 104.
