Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Candidate Withdraws

Dr. Joel D. Boyd is withdrawing his bid to be the next Fort Worth ISD Superintendent.

School Board President Norman Robbins informed the Board of Boyd’s decision on Saturday evening, officials said in a statement.

Boyd’s decision came at the end of the 21-day formal vetting process mandated by Texas law.

"The Fort Worth ISD Board considers the hiring of a superintendent the most important duty we have and we are committed to working together to ensure we bring the best possible person to Fort Worth to lead us,” said Robbins. “Our students, their families and our employees deserve no less.”

A board meeting scheduled for Monday evening has been canceled, Robbins said.

"The Fort Worth ISD Board of Education will now resume the process of finding a permanent superintendent to lead the District. There are a number of issues that must be resolved as we move forward. The Board will work through the issues involved to come to a successful search conclusion," Robbins said Monday.

Dr. Patricia Linares will continue to serve as interim superintendent, as she has since June 2014.
