Fort Worth ISD Opens All Boys School

Fort Worth ISD Superintendent stresses "singleness of focus"

When students return to school Monday for the start of the 2012-2013 school year, 150 boys in Fort Worth will notice they have something particular in common with their classmates - they're all male.

The Paul Laurence Dunbar Young Men's Leadership Academy, located in the 5000-block of Willie Street in east Fort Worth, is a first for the Fort Worth Independent School District.  The 150 6th and 7th grade students at the Leadership Academy had to apply for admission to the school, as well as receive recommendations from teachers.

New Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Walter Dansby told NBC 5 his motto for the district this year is, "Success demands singleness of purpose," a quote from legendary football coach Vince Lombardi.

Dansby said Monday that students at the Leadership Academy will be in a good position to achieve success within the school's college preparatory curriculum.
