Fort Worth Highway Chase Ends in Crash

An off-duty Fort Worth police officer was involved in a chase that ended in a car crash on Tuesday.

The chase started after an off-duty Fort Worth police officer spotted a possible theft at Hulen Mall.

The officer located and detained the suspected thief, but the suspect assualted the officer and left the mall on foot, Fort Worth police said.

The officer chased the person into the parking lot where the suspect hopped into a Lincoln sedan with another man.

The off-duty officer drove after the car and attempted to stop the suspects but they continued to evade police.

The chase continued east on Interstate 20 and ended at I-20 and Wichita Street when the suspects rammed multiple vehicles on the freeway.

MedStar sent three ambulances to the crash. 

One of the suspects was ejected from the getaway car and transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The current condition of the suspects is unknown.   .

The off-duty officer suffered minor injuries from the assault by the theft suspect. The officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
