Parking Rate Increase Debated in Fort Worth

Parking rates could soon be going up in Fort Worth's Cultural District.

City officials wanted to change parking rates in the district from $5 to $8 and lower the parking time to 90 minutes or less.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram said the price change will help pay $31 million owed on the Western Heritage parking garage.

The paper reported that some council members opposed the proposal, saying it may hurt museum attendance in the district.

There is also debate on when to raise the rates. Doing so next year would result in a surplus of nearly $750,000 while waiting until next year will create a $640,000 shortfall.
