Fort Worth Animal Shelter Over Capacity, Adoption Fees Reduced

If you're looking to adopt a dog or cat, the month of July might be one of the cheapest times to do it.

Fort Worth's animal shelter is over capacity for the second time this summer. To help animals find their forever homes, the shelter reduced its adoption fees.

Until the end of July, adoption fees are $17.76, which covers an initial medical exam, a rabies vaccination, a city license, a micro-chip and spaying or neutering.

There are about 610 dogs and 100 cats in the shelter waiting to be adopted.

Fort Worth said this is particularly busy time of year for animal shelters because pets run away during Fourth of July fireworks.

The main Fort Worth animal shelter is located at 4900 Martin Street. Satellite adoption centers are at the PetSmart at Interstate 35 W. at Heritage Trace Parkway and at Southwest Loop 820 at Hulen Street.
