Fort Hood Fires Nearly Out; 1,000 Acres Burned

Grass fires at Fort Hood have burned about 1,000 acres on two ranges but officials say the blazes are nearly out.

Fort Hood officials said Wednesday that the two fires are 90 percent contained.

A statement from the Central Texas Army post says the fires do not pose a danger to any homes or structures. Nobody has been hurt.

One grass fire reported Monday afternoon grew to about 500 acres. Officials on Tuesday were monitoring two grass fires with no reports of anyone hurt or danger to the general public.

Fort Hood is about 70 miles north of Austin.
