Fort Bliss to Make “Major Announcement”

Fort Bliss officials say they will make an important announcement regarding the future of the West Texas Army post, the nation's largest installation by land area.

Fort Bliss spokesman Maj. Joe Buccino says there will be a "major announcement" Tuesday morning. He says they had scheduled a news conference last week but due the importance of the event, they decided to wait for higher ranking officers from Washington, D.C., to arrive for the announcement.

Buccino would not release more details.

Due to the planned reduction of the Army, Fort Bliss stands to lose one of its four brigade combat teams. However, that loss will be compensated by growth in the remaining combat teams and the post gaining a third anti-missile battery and hosting an Air Force training center.
