A former West paramedic has pleaded guilty to charges that he collected material for a pipe bomb in a case unrelated to a deadly fertilizer plant explosion.
Bryce Ashley Reed appeared Thursday in federal court in Waco. A criminal complaint states he pleaded to conspiracy to make a destructive device and attempting to obstruct justice.
The 31-year-old previously was charged with unlawfully possessing a destructive device.
Reed became one of the most avid spokesmen for West after the April blast that killed 15, including 10 first responders. His May arrest in the middle of the blast investigation shocked the town.
Authorities have never said Reed had any criminal responsibility for the blast.
A criminal complaint says Reed left pipe bomb materials with a friend, who called authorities.
