University of New Mexico officials say a 23-year-old Lobos baseball player from Keller was fatally shot outside an Albuquerque club early Saturday.
Athletics Director Eddie Nunez said Jackson Weller's death was a "senseless tragedy" and called Weller "a very special young man whose absence will be deeply felt."
Weller was from Keller and played baseball for Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth.
Nolan Catholic Athletic Director Rene Ramirez coached Weller during the pitcher's senior season in 2014.
"Always smiling, always happy, just a great guy to be around," Ramirez recalled. "You wanted to hang out with Jackson."
He said Jackson pitched some memorable games, including a no-hitter, during his high school career.
"His dream was to take it as far as it could take him and to see what happened," Ramirez said.

University of New Mexico athletics spokesman Daniel Gallegos said Weller was a right-handed pitcher who transferred from Gateway Community College in Phoenix in the fall of 2018.
Gallegos said Weller wasn't currently on the UNM team's official roster because of injury but was still part of the program and hoped to play again in the fall.
Weller never got the chance.
Police said no suspects were identified and that the investigation was continuing.
The New Mexico team postponed the remainder of its weekend series against the Air Force Academy.
