A former Austin elementary school special education teacher has been charged with biting a student.
Austin police said 30-year-old Samuel Haire told them he bit the 11-year-old Kocurek Elementary School student on the arm Nov. 10 because the boy unexpectedly turned toward him. Haire was charged Thursday with a felony count of injury to a child.
Police said Haire originally blamed the bite on other students but eventually admitted to the attack.
The boy's mother said her son suffered bruising and has since transferred to another school in the district.
Haire resigned Nov. 26.
It wasn't immediately clear if he has an attorney.
