A former North Texas city official has been indicted for allegedly trying to steal about $9,400 from the city's Community Development Corporation.
The Collin County grand jury indicted former Anna City Council member David W. Crim Sr. on a count of attempted theft by a public servant.
Anna Police Chief Kenny Jenks tells The Dallas Morning News that a warrant was issued for Crim's arrest on Friday. Jail officials say Crim was booked and released on his own recognizance this morning.
The indictment alleges that Crim tried to deposit a development corporation check into his personal bank account last June. The check was intended to pay for bleachers in a city ballpark. Jenks says the bank teller became suspicious and refused to complete the transaction.
Jenks says the check was returned to the development corporation, and its treasurer reported the incident to the city manager.
If convicted, Crim faces up to two years in a state jail. He resigned his council seat in November because of work obligations.
