Flood Repairs Nearly Complete on Denton County Roads

Denton County road commissioners say besides a few major washouts like Oliver Creek Road, they've nearly completed repairs months after the spring's record flooding.

On Friday, Mingo Road washed out north of State Highway 380 near the Loop 288 intersection in Denton.

Crews quickly closed the road to begin assessing the damage as drivers will likely have to take detours for a while.

Elsewhere though, Denton County's flood damage is quickly dwindling.

County road commissioners Hugh Coleman and Andy Eads both report work is nearly complete on the county-maintained roads affected by May flooding.

Eads said much of the smaller damage like washouts near culverts and repairs to the actual road surfaces were able to be completed by in-house county crews.

Some spots will take significantly longer, though, like Oliver Creek Road just west of Justin.

The bridge on that county road was nearly completely washed out in May, and, besides some clean-up, has had very little work since then.

Eads said the county will have to hire outside crews to have that road redesigned and constructed, but there's no definitive time line for that repair yet.
