First Victim in Shooting Rampage Laid to Rest

Jorge Lopez, one of the victims of last week's highway shooting spree, was laid to rest Sunday afternoon.

Friends and family gathered Saturday night to remember the 20-year-old car enthusiast who was the first victim in a rush hour shooting rampage Dec. 22.

Lopez was stopped at a traffic light in Garland when he was fatally shot.

Following Saturday's wake, the roar of engines could be heard offering a procession of horsepower to memorialize the young victim.

Funeral services for Lopez were held Sunday at Resthaven Funeral Home in Rowlett.

Police suspect former Utah state trooper Brian Smith fired the shots before taking his own life during a standoff in Garland.
