Firefighters in Southeast Texas Save Urn With Grandmother's Ashes

Firefighters in Southeast Texas have salvaged an irreplaceable item for one 16-year-old from the debris of her burned home: an urn with the ashes of her grandmother.

Residents in Victoria reported seeing flames shooting through the windows of a nearby home on Saturday afternoon.

The Victoria Advocate reports that 16-year-old Elyza Garza returned home to find her home in shambles.

But firefighters were able to save the ceramic urn, even though it was badly charred.

Her grandmother, Mary Jane Campos, died three years ago and she served as a pallbearer.

Authorities are still investigating what started the fire, but believe it was accidental.
