Fired Fort Worth Police Officer Wins Job Back

A veteran North Texas police officer fired for allegedly falsifying his time sheets has won his job back.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Thursday that a hearing examiner has sided with Sgt. John Ost. The Fort Worth Police Department officer denied allegations of working fewer hours than his records showed.

Ost's indefinite suspension since May 2011 was ordered reduced to a 15-day suspension with back pay.

Ost said he believed he had permission from a supervisor in the split-shift dispute when two sergeants shared time covering the jail desk.

Ost testified at times he spent the first half of his shift at home, checking emails, answering calls and eating breakfast, then worked at the jail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
