Fire Closes North Richland Hills School

Classes will resume Monday

Flames in a janitorial closet have closed Holiday Heights Elementary School in North Richland Hills Wednesday.

According to fire crews, the call came in at about 5 a.m. about a fire at the school. When crews arrived, they found fire coming out of an electrical closet. As the fire burned, it melted part of a hot water heater that actually helped put out the fire, crews said.

Fire and smoke heavily damaged the area around the closet and sent smoke into the other parts of the school.

Classes were cancelled for the day, and were originally going to resume Thursday, according to Mark Thomas, communication director for the Birdville Independent School District.

The district said Wednesday afternoon that damage was still being assessed and that school would be closed through the remainder of this week.

BISD said it would provide updates through phone calls, the website and Facebook.

No one was injured in the fire.
