Final Game Played At Texas Stadium

Flag football team plays final game at Texas Stadium.

Football games aren't usually sentimental events, but today's game at Texas Stadium definitely was.

It was the last football game to ever be played at Texas Stadium. A group of men have been playing flag football at Texas Stadium for the past 9 years, and today was their farewell game before the stadium closes its doors forever.

"Everybody is throwing the football around. Actually being able to stand here on the same grass that Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman played on and the Tony Romo's, that's exciting," said Cowboys fan Gary Waitt, who brought his son and grandson to the stadium to say goodbye.

The flag football team hit the field donning blue and white Cowboy's jersey's. It wasn't an official game but had all the excitement of a real one. There were loud cheers from the crowd, interceptions, refs and even the next the generation of Cowboys cheerleaders.

"It's an amazing feeling. Normally we are up on the stands and watching down, watching the players have fun. Now we get to have fun out there," said William Whitney, who played on the white team.

Dozens of fans showed up for the final tours of Texas Stadium, cameras in hand. Parents took turns taking pictures of their children on the famous blue star in the middle of the field.

Fans stood around, taking pictures and soaking in the memories of the past 37 years.

"You've got so much history here. You've got all the Monday night football games, you can almost still hear the roar of the crowd," Waitt said.

It was a bittersweet day for Cowboys fans, who didn't want to say goodbye to Texas Stadium but are ready for a new era of Cowboys football.

"We are America's team and we'll take the spirit we had here at Texas Stadium and take to the new stadium," Waitt said.
