Man Fatally Struck Near Broken-Down Vehicle

Garland police said a man was fatally struck while putting gas into his broken-down vehicle on Interstate 635 early Friday morning.

Police said the man who died ran out of gas near Jupiter Road and called a friend for help at about 3 a.m. The two men were putting gas into the car when they were struck.

Police said the deceased man's friend was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver who struck the men likely won't face charges because the men were too close to the road when hit, officials said. The driver also stopped and called 911.

Eastbound 635 was shut down until about 6:15 a.m.
