The fire on Overcup Lane killed three of the family's four pets.

A Keller family is being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire erupted inside their home overnight Wednesday, killing three of their pets.

The fire on the 6400-block of Overcup Lane was reported by the family's alarm company at about 12:40 a.m. Thursday.

Keller firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the one-story home and the three residents, including one with special needs, safely across the street with neighbors.

Medics treated the residents for smoke inhalation and eventually transported two people to North Hills Hospital in North Richland Hills and a third person to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.  All are expected to be OK.

Most of the family's pets, two cats and a dog, died from smoke inhalation.  A second dog, a golden pomeranian, is missing.

The fire is believed to have started in the living room, though investigators have not yet determined what started the fire.

Firefighters from Colleyville, Southlake, North Richland Hills and Watauga assisted in the fight.
