Family Donates Organs of Girl Struck, Killed By Car

Carrollton police are looking into the death of 12-year-old Crystal Sanchez, a seventh grader at Perry Middle School.

According to police, Crystal stepped in front of an oncoming car as she tried to cross the 1700 block of Crosby Road on Nov. 2 at about 6:45 p.m.

Police said the driver tried to stop in time but was unable and struck the girl.

Crystal's family held a candlelight vigil at the accident scene Thursday night. The family decided to donate her organs and recently learned five of her organs, including her heart, were given to five different recipients.

"In the end, I think that it's what she would have wanted, to help others, and she did even though she is no longer here," said Crystal's aunt, Elizabeth Sanchez.

The family said Crystal and her brother lived with her grandparents, their legal guardians, not far from Perry Middle School.

They said she was walking home from school when she was hit and killed.

The school provided extra counselors for students after her death.

Friends described Crystal as a giving person, who always sought opportunities to help others.

"She'd do anything to keep someone happy," said her best friend, Layla Ramirez.

Police said Crystal's death was accidental and no charges have been filed.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses.
