UPDATED: FWSO Contract Dispute Not Spreading to School District

UPDATED: Reports that the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra's contract fight is spreading to the school district are unfounded, according to representatives from the Symphony and Fort Worth ISD.

The musicians have been on strike for more than a month now, after rejecting the last contract offer over low pay.

While on strike, musicians have continued to play educational events at several Fort Worth ISD schools.

They're volunteering their time and are not getting paid.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that bookings for new in-school performances were on hold after the musicians said someone objected to their playing in schools during an ongoing labor dispute.

"We have a hard time understanding how that is relevant," said Bill Clay, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra musician. "In any of these concerts, there's been no mention of anything about negotiations. It's simply about continuing our efforts for the welfare of the kids and their music and their education in their lives."

A spokesperson with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra said they checked with their entire organization and no one reports having called the school district to object to the in-school performances.

A Fort Worth ISD representative confirmed the same Wednesday morning, saying they have not had conversations with the symphony about ending the in-school performances.

The shows will go on as planned.
