At 11 p.m., Fort Worth police responded to a call from the woman who said her grandson was under the influence of methamphetamine, assaulting her and threatening to kill her at her home on the 800 block of East Butler Street.

When police arrived, the man refused to let them inside. Police said the man's girlfriend told the officers she would shoot them and sic her dogs on them if they tried to come into the house.

Police said they called in a SWAT team after the couple barricaded themselves in the house. The standoff ended just before 8 a.m. Tuesday when SWAT officers threw tear gas canisters into the house and explosively breached the door.

After a brief search, they found the man in the attic and took him into custody.

"They did make contact with the people inside, but they decided they were not going to come out," Fort Worth Police Department Sgt. Steven Enright said. "That forced SWAT to have to deploy tear gas and eventually have to make entry into the house."

The man was arrested and charged with felony domestic abuse, police said. His girlfriend was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats on a law enforcement officer.

"The male suspect and the female suspect did receive some minor injuries," Enright said. "They’ve been taken to the hospital for treatment of those injuries."

The grandmother was evaluated by paramedics. Her condition is not yet known.
