A published report says former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is expected to be named to a job in Dallas with Covisint, a subsidiary of software and technical services company Compuware Corp.
The Detroit Free Press, citing a person familiar with the arrangement that it didn't name, reported Thursday that Compuware Chairman Peter Karmanos was preparing to announce the hiring later in the day.
Attorneys for Kilpatrick have asked a judge to allow their client to leave the state for orientation and training in Texas, the Detroit Free Press reported Thursday.
Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner's office said the motion was delivered Thursday. The motion asked that Kilpatrick be allowed to leave on Friday.
The motion will be heard on Feb. 24.
Prosecutor's spokeswoman Maria Miller said her office also received the emergency motion to travel. She said a response will be argued in court.
Messages seeking comment were left before regular business hours Thursday for Detroit-based Compuware and Covisint.

The 38-year-old Kilpatrick returned to Detroit on Monday following a job-hunting trip to North Texas. He traveled to the Dallas area after spending 99 days in the Wayne County jail.
Kilpatrick's wife, Carlita, and their three children moved to Southlake in December, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Kilpatrick pleaded guilty last year to two felony counts of obstructing justice by perjuring himself for denying under oath a sexual affair with his former chief of staff, Christine Beatty. He also pleaded no contest to a felony charge in the assault of a sheriff's deputy.
During his guilty plea, Kilpatrick admitted he lied under oath in a police whistle-blower lawsuit after two officers were fired. The Detroit Free Press published last year excerpts of text messages between Kilpatrick and the Beatty that contradicted their testimony that they did not have a sexual relationship.
He is on five years' probation.
