El Paso Man Gets Prison for Drug Trafficking in New Mexico

Jesus Gerardo Prieto Jr., 39, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison

An El Paso man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for heroin and methamphetamine trafficking in New Mexico.

Prosecutors said 39-year-old Jesus Gerardo Prieto Jr. was sentenced Monday in federal court in Las Cruces.

Prieto was arrested last October at the Border Patrol checkpoint in Las Cruces after agents seized more than 432 grams of methamphetamine and about 117 grams of heroin found concealed inside his vehicle.

He was charged with distributing methamphetamine in August 2017 in New Mexico's Dona Ana County, distributing methamphetamine and heroin in October 2017 in Luna County and possession of methamphetamine and heroin with intent to distribute that same month in Dona Ana County.

Prosecutors said Prieto pleaded guilty five months ago to charges in the indictment without a plea agreement.
