A University Park man is hopeful people will appreciate his dark sense of humor when it comes to his Halloween decoration theme this year: Ebola.
"We just started thinking [of a theme] on Saturday, and the first thing that came to mind - the scariest thing - Ebola. So that's kind of our inspiration behind all this," said homeowner James Faulk.
His inspiration has become a realistic-looking hazmat scene in the front yard of his town house, complete with "quarantine" signs, bio-hazard bags marked as "Infectious Waste," several big, blue plastic barrels and, at times, Faulk himself dressed in a hazmat suit labeled "CDC Trainee."
The decorations, near the corner of Westchester Drive and Emerson Avenue, cost Faulk a little more than $100 and a few hours of setup on Sunday, he said.
Neighbors have had mixed reactions, with many stopping by to take pictures and compliment the setup Thursday afternoon. Others were less than impressed, with someone calling the Highland Park police to complain.
Officers came to the house to inspect but were quickly able to determine that the setup was part of a Halloween display, Faulk said.
For those who disapprove of his choice of Halloween theme, Faulk said that he understands. But he dismissed the suggestion that his decorations might be offensive.

"It seems like people's skin gets thinner and thinner every day. Somebody's [always] complaining about something in the news. And it's just ridiculous. If they don't like it, change the channel. But it's gonna be on every channel," Faulk said, with a laugh.
