Duck Creek Community Braces for Severe Weather

People living in the areas surrounding Duck Creek in Garland are paying close attention to the forecast, as severe weather could move into North Texas by Thursday.

The area suffered severe flooding in May. The Garland Fire Department had at least a dozen water rescues from cars and homes.

The Jack Coleman Tennis Center at 1010 West Miller Road sits right off of Duck Creek.

"We had about three or four feet of water go through the entire property," said tennis center pro Laurie Hock. "It closed us down."

Hock says the city of Garland stepped in to help clean and haul away debris. The entire pro shop had to be completely gutted.

"The building took us all summer. We worked out of portable buildings. It was a very difficult summer," she said.

The staff has only been back in its main building since September.

"I don't know that we could handle another flood. That was the first time in like 40 years that this area flooded as bad as it did. I just don't know that we're up to going through that again," she said.
