Critical drought conditions in one Texas city have forced an entertainment park to truck in well water for its slides and river float attraction.
City officials in Wichita Falls on Monday announced Castaway Cove Waterpark has retained an outside hauling company to provide well water.
Stage 5 drought catastrophic rules are in effect for the city of more than 100,000, meaning restrictions on city-supplied water for such entertainment.
A city statement says Castaway Cove had been actively seeking alternative water sources so the park can open Saturday for the season.
The park plans to haul up to 9,000 gallons of well water daily. The wells have been tested by an independent lab so the water complies with state health regulations. Park revenues will pay the estimated $70,000 water-hauling cost.
