Dramatic Rescue From Drilling Platform

Worker suffers head injury on drilling rig.

A gas drilling rig worker suffered serious injuries when a piece of equipment got away from the crew, hitting the victim in the head.

Roughnecks were tripping the drill bit at the time of the accident, that means they were pulling the pipe and bit out of the

ground, when a piece of the pipe got away from them and hit the victim in the head.

Firefighters had to perform an elevated rescue because the platform is ninety feet off of the ground.

It took workers on the rig and rescue crews working together an hour to get the man down safely.

He was placed in a safety basket and slowly lowered to the ground.

A short time later the injured man was taken by Careflight helicopter to the hospital.

Chesapeake Energy is investigating the Grand Prairie accident.
