Donation to Allow Sheppard AFB Pool to Remain Open

The main pool at Sheppard Air Force Base in North Texas will remain open despite drought restrictions.

The base in Wichita Falls announced an anonymous gift from a business will allow water to be trucked to the installation's main pool for the rest of the summer.

Wichita Falls is under Stage 5 drought catastrophic rules, mean swimming pools cannot be filled use city-treated water.

Base officials had planned to close the pool but then on Friday announced the donation. Second Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Leonard Patrick approved the gift that was offered June 13.

A weekend statement on a Sheppard AFB support website said: "At this time the Main Pool will remain OPEN!"

Authorities didn't release the cost of keeping the main pool operating through the summer.
