Dive Teams Find Man's Body in White Rock Creek

Dallas dive teams have found a body that they believe to be a man that fell in White Rock Creek.

Officials with Dallas Fire-Rescue searched for the man Monday morning, but were unable to locate him. Dive teams found what they believe to be the man's body Tuesday morning, but say there are several challenges to recovering the body.

"You have a 10 foot steep embankment straight down into the river, so we don't have ease of access or an easy way to get a diver in there," said Rod Dillon with Dallas Fire-Rescue. "We have to rappel down the sides."

Additionally, the dive team has had to deal with water moccasins that live in the area.

Officers talking with witnesses said "suspicious circumstances" surrounding the man's disappearance led them to call in homicide detectives.

Witnesses at the scene told detectives they heard "loud talking" coming from the direction where the man and another person were standing.  A short time later, when the man was then seen struggling in the water, the fisherman dove in and attempted to rescue him, police said.

Initial reports indicated two men were fishing along the bank of the creek when one of the men fell in and disappeared.

Police interviewed the person last seen with the missing man, who said he had just met the man and that he didn't know his name.

No further details about the interview were released by police and, so far, no arrests have been made.

NBC 5's Ken Kalthoff, Frank Heinz, and Keaton Fox contributed to this report.
