Devoted Father, Husband Killed in Crash

Driver expected to face criminal charges

A FedEx driver died from injuries received in a crash on Highway 114 in Irving on Monday night.

Irving police said Khaled Abushaaban died when the driver of a pickup truck lost control, crossed three lanes of traffic and then hit a cable barrier, sending his truck flying into a FedEx truck on the other side of the highway.

Justin Jones, who drove the pickup truck, remained hospital Tuesday night. Police said they were prepared to charge Jones with intoxication manslaughter in the crash.

In Arlington, people gathered at Abushaaban's home to console the family.

"I hope he is in a better place right now. He was the happiest person in the world," said his sister Deena Abushaaban.

"He is a star in the community, a father trying to support his family," said family friend Amalia Awaida. "It's just like it hurt us so much."

Khaled Abushaaban is survived by his wife who is expecting their second child. The couple also has a 9-month-old daughter.

Jones was charged with DWI in December 2009. He had also been charged twice with possession of a controlled substance, once in April 2009 and in 2006.
