Deputies Say Toddler's Death “Very Disturbing”

Hunt Count Sheriff's Deputies are preparing capital murder charges for two people in custody for the death of a 2-year-old boy.

Dispatchers in Hunt County received a 911 call around 6 a.m. Sunday with the report of a child who had stopped breathing.

The caller told 911 that two adults were headed to the hospital with the child. The dispatcher had them stop at Interstate 30 and Farm-to-Market Road 513 in Hunt County because there had been an accident on the freeway and emergency personnel were already at that location.

Chief Deputy Joe Knight said the paramedics determined the child was already dead as soon as they began to treat him.

Knight said the cause of death is listed as massive blunt force trauma, and that deputies at the scene told him the situation was very disturbing.

The man and woman, both 21, are in custody. The couple's own child, nearly 3-years-old, is in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Knight added the child's mother apparently left the boy with the adults who are relatives several weeks ago. Knight said officials are trying to locate her and other next of kin before the victim's name and other details about the case are released.
