Denton Police Arrest Man, 33, Connected to Aug. 7 Shooting

Police said they arrested a 33-year-old man Monday in connection with the shooting of a man found in a car that had crashed through a Denton fence Aug. 7.

Denton police said they responded to a shooting call in the 500 block of Mingo Road at 6:40 p.m. Aug. 7 and found a gray Jaguar that had crashed through an impound lot fence.

The driver of the Jaguar — a man in his 20s — had multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Medical City Denton, where police said he remains in their care.

Investigators said the shooter and victim were both driving west on Mingo Road. Witnesses said the shooter fled the scene after the shooting.

The day after the shooting, investigators said they thought the shooter and victim "had previous interactions and most likely knew each other."

Police said they issued an arrest warrant Monday for James Carlos Reed in connection to the shooting. Reed turned himself in and was placed under arrest for aggravated assault.

Bond has not yet been set.

Police said Reed shows prior arrests in Denton for discharging a firearm, possession of marijuana, evading arrest and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
