Denton has a new Chief of Police, for now.
The department appointed retired Capt. Paul Abbott to interim chief on Thursday.
Abbott is coming out of retirement a little more than a year after he left. Abbott will officially take over the job on Monday, the Denton Record-Chronicle reported.
Abbott, who served the department for 37 years, told the DRC that he had no plans to become a candidate for the permanent position.
The department's former chief, Roy Minter, is leaving North Texas to take a job in Peoria, Ariz.
