Denton County Meets with FEMA on Flood Damage

Denton County may know soon how much road repairs from spring flooding will cost them.

On Monday, Denton County Roads Commissioner Andy Eads said he and other leaders met with Federal Emergency Management Agency representatives to find out how much federal assistance they will receive to help cover the damage.

Ever since the massive rain storms in late May cleared up, Eads and Commissioner Hugh Coleman report their road crews have been working basically every day to fix up the county roads.

So far, they’ve discovered issues from culvert damage to complete washouts.

Some of the more notable damage includes the bridge at Oliver Creek Road west of Justin, which crumbled to pieces and remains closed to traffic.

Also, the bridge at Shady Shores road which is one of the few remaining in the area that’s still under water.

Coleman said last week that they are still waiting for the water to go down before they can assess the extent of the damage there.

Eads said his crews have successfully gotten several roads fixed up already and are trying to work through the list as soon as they can.

"We really appreciate their patience as we've been working hard this summer,” said Eads. "We are going to get there."
