Denton County Home Flooded with Two Feet of Water

As the heavy rain caused major flooding around North Texas, more than two feet of water flooded Kathy and Greg Steuck's Denton County home.

The water was high enough to cause their furniture to float around the house.

“I mean when we got up and the water was here, then it rose to here, then it got to here and then it moved here,” said Kathy Steuck, as she described the water rising in her home. “And we weren’t sure how much further it was going to rise. And that was the fearful thing.”

The couple woke up last Thursday night to find the Duck Creek behind their home overflowing into their neighborhood and into their home. Now a lifetime of treasures are lost.

“We have two sons,” said Kathy Steuck. “And we had a hope chest full of all their clothes, all their school stuff from kindergarten to senior [year].”

Three days later there was more rain and more flooding.

“Here comes the water again,” Kathy Steuck said in a cellphone video recording. “It has risen about 12 feet in 45 minutes.”

Friday, they gutted the home with the help of professional cleaners. Their house is nothing but a shell now.

“It’s just the cleanup. It's overwhelming,” said Kathy Steuck. “But I don't want to feel ungrateful because we have insurance and it can be repaired.”

But even through all the mess, their family is still together.

“You know, Greg got out, I got out and our animals got out,” said Kathy Steuck. “So if we're thankful for anything, we're thankful for that.”
