Denton Charges TV Recycling Fee

There's less and less demand for recycled materials from old TVs and computer monitors, so the city of Denton is charging residents a recycling fee.

Residents who drop off their TVs and computer monitors at the landfill will be charged $15 per item. Residents who go for curbside pickup will have to pay $20 per item.

Recycling other household electronics like cellphones and other computer parts is still free at the landfill.

Denton's recycling manager hopes the new fees don’t deter residents from recycling.

Electronics contain lead, mercury and other substances
that can be harmful if not disposed of properly.
