Childhood photos of capital murder convict Eric Williams filled a Rockwall courtroom Thursday as his lawyers worked to block the death sentence prosecutors are seeking in the punishment phase of his trial.
Jurors heard from Williams’ relatives and friends as pictures were displayed of the young man who grew up in Azle.
His former Scoutmaster Alvin Graham said Williams attained the top rank of Eagle as a Boy Scout.
Williams' 79-year-old aunt LaVon Humphries said she came to testify for Williams despite suffering from stage 4 cancer. Humphries said Williams was smarter than other kids in the family growing up.
“He was just a good kid,” she said.
“If he killed three people, he would not be an honorable man, no sir,” Lyles said.

The jury convicted Williams last week for the March 2013 murder of Cynthia Williams, the wife of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland. Jurors have also heard evidence that Williams killed Mike McLelland and Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse.
“I have difficulty reconciling the person I knew in high school with someone who would do something like this,” said Williams’ friend Billy Sheets, a Tarrant County Sheriff’s Deputy.
Prosecutors claim the murders are retribution for a 2012 burglary and theft conviction Williams received.
Defense lawyers indicate they will continue calling witnesses on Williams’ behalf into next week.
