Deadly Crash in Grand Prairie

One person is dead following a crash in Grand Prairie.

The deadly accident happened around 1 p.m. Friday in the intersection of the 2100 block of North Carrier Parkway and Highway 161.

According to police, 27-year-old Benny Torres, of Grand Prairie, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze on Carrier Parkway when he ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 161, entering the path of a box truck coming from the frontage road.

The box truck collided into the passenger side of the Chevrolet, pinning Torres in the wreckage. He died at the scene.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Witnesses told police the light had been red for several seconds prior to the crash.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, which is the 10th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie in 2014.
