Dallas Woman Missing in New Mexico Mountains

There is an all-out search underway to find a Dallas woman who disappeared in the mountains of New Mexico.

Crews have been searching the trails in Santa Fe for 75-year-old Audrey Richman Kaplan since Wednesday.

She went hiking with her husband, Dr. Norm Kaplan, on the Windsor trail, part of the Santa Fe Ski Basin. When Norm Kaplan stopped to take a break, his wife continued on but never returned.

Now, 60 people have fanned out across the mountainous terrain to find Audrey Kaplan.

A chopper was grounded Friday due to the cloud cover.

"She did not have the appropriate gear or clothing for what she did, but she might have the right instincts," friend Judy Allison told KOB-TV in Albuquerque, NM.

The couple usually vacations in Santa Fe, and on Friday, walking poles were discovered that possibly belonged to Audrey Kaplan.

Folks in North Texas are hoping she is soon found unharmed.

In a statement, Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, president of UT Southwestern Medical Center, said:

"All of us at UT Southwestern Medical Center are concerned to hear that Audrey Kaplan, wife of Dr. Norman Kaplan, professor of internal medicine at UT Southwestern and an admired colleague, has been reported missing near Santa Fe, N.M. I am sure that the entire UTSW community joins me in hoping and praying for her safe return to her family."
