Dallas SWAT Arrests Man After 5-Hour Standoff

Members of the Dallas SWAT team have arrested a man after he kept them at bay for about five hours Thursday morning.

Dallas police responded to a call from a woman around 5 a.m. inside the home in the 9000-block of Flicker. Police say the woman is elderly and bedridden. She told police the 54-year-old man had a weapon.

When police arrived, they tried to make contact with the man, but he refused to come out. SWAT was called and began negotiating with him.

The man surrendered peacefully around 10 a.m.

DART and school buses had to be rerouted temporarily. A local school was put on "modified lockdown", said Senior Corporal Melinda Gutierrez.

That lockdown has since been lifted.
