A dog that a Dallas police officer rescued from the middle of Interstate 35E will be placed in his "forever home" Thursday.
The dog, named Laurel by Off. John Rogers, won't have to go far, as Rogers is the one who stepped up and adopted her.
Laurel was lying on the concrete barrier on I-35E near Interstate 20 when officers found her Feb. 13. Rogers was able to coax her into his police cruiser, where she perked up and licked his face.
Rogers texted pictures to his wife, who said she wanted Laurel if no one claimed her.
"I was like, 'What do you want to do? We already have some dogs at the house," Rogers said. "It was the wife's idea. It was close to Valentine's. I didn't want to take a chance at undermining that."
A waiting period to see if anyone claimed the dog ended, so Rogers will reunite with Laurel and take her home Thursday afternoon.
