Driver Dies After Being Shot By Dallas Police

Driver of a car dies after being shot by police. Dept. maintains it was self-defense.

There are conflicting stories between Dallas Police and neighbors in an Oak Cliff apartment complex after an officer involved shooting.

What is known is that a male driver is dead after being shot by an officer. The shooting happened Saturday around 6:00 p.m. after a traffic stop in the 3600 block of Folklore Trail, near Kiest Blvd. and South Polk Street in Dallas.

According to Dallas Police, the officer shot the driver of a vehicle at the complex after pulling him over for a traffic violation.  Officers maintain it was in self-defense.  The officer was not injured.

Apartment resident Montiel Redic witnessed the incident. She said she knew the male driver and claimed he was 13 years old.

"It shocked me because I'm thinking, "I know they're about to shoot him,' said Redic.

Police have not released the victim's age or name.  The department is starting an internal investigation.

"Any officer involved in a shooting, it's traumatic," said Sgt. Warren Mitchell, Dallas Police Department. "It's nothing any officer wants to be involved in his career."
